History of the Classic EB Bass

It seems incredible in hindsight but in the early 1960s, the Kalamazoo factory, home to both Epiphone and Gibson instruments, ceased production of the Les Paul guitar and in its place, created the “SG” design. And as it so often does, changes in guitar design also influenced bass design, too. With the Les Paul (temporarily) out of the picture, the SG took over. And for a time during that golden era, the classic SG bass was the historic factory’s sole electric bass offering.

But the EB-0 “SG” bass was by no means a cast-off. It quickly became one of the most attractive basses of the day and players like Bill Wyman of The Rolling Stones, Cream’s Jack Bruce and The Who’s John Entwistle made the “EB” style bass a hitmaker. Now, Epiphone presents the EB-0, a stunning recreation of the vintage marvel that has the tone and feel of the original without the vintage price tag and vintage problems.

Classic Styling

The EB-0 style is known for its unique SG-shaped all mahogany body with a 30 ½” scale mahogany neck that is easy on bass players and guitar players who occasionally will take on bass in the studio or on stage. The bolt-on, SlimTaper™ neck with classic dot inlays and a standard 1.50″ nut. There are no surprises to their new EB-0. This is a faithful recreation of the historic bass that previously has been unavailable to most players.

Vintage EB-Tone

The tone of the EB-0 hasn’t changed either with Epiphone’s famous Sidewinder humbucker pickup which perfectly compliments the light tonewood mahogany body. The Sidewinder has a wide range of tones and colors and easily holds its own on any stage.

Like all their Epiphone models, the EB-0 uses all nickel hardware, a full adjustable bridge, and full function volume and tone controls using full-size 500K ohm potentiometers.
